Closing Thoughts

We have only one more class left? Golly gee willikers! How the time flies! It is with great sadness that I am looking forward to the end of our intense summer course next Monday. We had a lot of work but also a lot of fun, and there was not a day I did not look forward to our two hour and thirty minutes class on MTR even as I fell behind on projects sometimes.

One of the most difficult assignments for me in our class was essay 2: document design. I had a lot of difficulty with it because first of all I am not a very artistic person, and then I had never used Microscotch Word before to do anything else besides what that program was best programed to do: word processing. I had to use word because I did not know how to use Forefront or any other fancy program but I managed to primitively clobber together a decent looking flyer. Another reason why my final essay 2 draft was only decent is because I did not have my flyer design completely finished for the workshop so that did not help because I did not get as much feedback as if I had a final design.

Speaking of workshops I have to admit that the instant feedback system on our rough drafts was one the most helpful aspects of our class even as our classmates left brutally honest comments I was able to get past the initial feeling of "screw it" and grow as a writer and then going on to craft even better/readable technical document.

Another really helpful aspect of our course was that we got to work on a cover letter, and a resume for a job application package. I had written a cover letter, and a resume before this class when I was applying for jobs but it did not follow the rules or design guides that our book went over but after rewritting them and getting feedback from the class I am confident that if I send them as part of a job application package they would certainly land me an interview with wichever company I apply for.

And that is my final thoughts on our month and a half intense summer course. As a reward for reading my post here is a funny picture for your enjoyment from one of my favorites webcomics website: "The Perry Bible Fellowship"

Yours truly

A nice little 9 to 5

Lisa Shaw, the secretary for the BSU Aviation Department, is awesome! Besides dealing with us aviation science and management knuckleheads all year, and the crazyness that goes on during weeks prior registration, she periodically sends aviation students emails about new internship, and job listings. For that reason my search for a job ad that I would be qualified for once I graduate college did not take too long.

The particular job ad I was interested in was about an available position at Jet Aviation in Hanscom Field Air Force Base in Bedford, MA as a "Lead Service Technician". I am interested in that position because from the job description "Responsible for overall operation of the flight line including supervision of line staff technicians. Coordinate arrivals and departures of aircraft. Track and maintain fuel records. Maintain shift reports", I figured it was an entry level management position that would be great for me to gain experience, I will be qualified for it as I will leave BSU with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management and they only needed an "associate degree or above", and because of the location as Bedford is only 20 to 30 minutes drive away from where I live.

I have visited that airport before and people there seemed genuinely happy they worked there, the installations seemed modern and functional, and the surround areas of Bedford, Concord, and Lexington are gorgeous. I think I would undoubtedly love working there. Furthermore after our summer course is over I am seeking an aviation related entry level position as a ramp agent for the rest of the summer to acquire relevant aviation related skills such as fueling, aircraft towing, etc.

Writing Collaboratively

Luckily for our class we don't have to go through the hell on earth every week that would be working in groups for our blog. Every college student at some point in their career has to or has already has worked in a group to get a course project done. Every fellow student I have met pretty much dreads that moment and I understand why. I have had only one bad experience where two other group members did not do their parts  so I ended up losing half a letter grade, but I try to tackle every new group assignment with genuine new enthusiasm. That is why thought Chapter 4: Writing Collaboratively will be helpful with our next assignment. It was definitively a interesting read with basic advice for working in groups like not being rude to more in depth reason why men and women behave differently in groups.

Prospective Students section of BSU’s website as a possible source for Assignment 2

I thought that the Prospective Students section would be a great source for our second assignment as that page is designed to get potential students to come to the university. When I was applying for colleges that page definitely helped make my mind about attending this university. The page is filled with information about the school, its size, number of students, on campus life, programs offered and other resources to give future students a snapshot of what is it like to be a student at Bridgewater State.
Here's the link
Also found this picture of the new science building that I think I'll include in my flyer to highlight the university's transformation into a scientific resource center for Southeastern Massachusetts
